This channel will celebrate long unseen British movies that have slipped into obscurity, many of which have been unseen since their last showings on UK television in the 1980s or 90s.
In order to try and minimize possible copyright issues films will be removed after a few days, so please come back often to see what's new.
There will be no rips of commercially produced dvd's on this channel, as I have no wish to deprive the copyright holders of legitimate sales of issued titles, a vast number of which have now been made available since dvd releases started appearing about 15 years ago.
Some films appearing on this channel would classify as "orphan works" where the copyright holder is unknown, so these in particular are unlikely to ever be officially released.
Enjoy the films, and please keep commenting on them!

Betty Bolton, "Lancashire Blues, Decca F 2170 with Hot Accompaniment, recorded 1930
This upload is possible through the kind loan of a copy of the original record from the collection of Pete Edwards.
"Lancashire Blues" was written and composed by Gracie Fields, who also recorded it for HMV. Betty Bolton's cover version was released on Decca and benefits from a hot orchestral accompaniment.
As I am not the possessor of this record I have not been able to include a label scan, but I do have a copy of the original music sheet published by Lawrence Wright that of courses features Gracie Fields on its cover, so I have included this to illustrate the song.

Savoy Orpheans, "By the light of the stars", recorded December 1925
Просмотров 18821 день назад
Nearly all electrical recordings by the Savoy Orpheans between 1925 - 1927 were recorded at the HMV studios at Hayes, but in November 1925 HMV engineers attempted to record the Savoy Orpheans at the Kingsway Hall in London. Four titles were recorded on 27th November but all takes were rejected. A second attempt to record the Orpheans there on December 17th was more successful, with all three ti...
FP 1 1933 Conrad Veidt, Jill Esmond full movie
Просмотров 3,7 тыс.Месяц назад
"FP 1" was filmed in Germany in English, German & French versions, with three separate casts, and was a futuristic drama about the construction of a "floating platform" in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. Despite being a prestigious production at the time, this film was not especially popular and 90 years on looks decidedly creaky, but undoubtedly has historical interest. The film was transmit...
Stanley Kirkby - "I'm in 7th heaven" from the Al Jolson film "Say it with songs", recorded July 1929
Просмотров 153Месяц назад
Stanley Kirkby (1878-1949) was one of the most prolific recording artists of the 78 era in the UK, starting in the days of wax cylinders through to the early 1930's. Under his usual pseudonym of "Walter Miller" that he had used from very early days, here he sings "I'm in seventh heaven" from Al Jolson's 1929 film "Say it with songs". What is perhaps surprising here is the red hot accompaniment ...
The Midnight Minstrels (Debroy Somers) "Sweet 16 and never been kissed" recorded 5th September 1932
Просмотров 205Месяц назад
Debroy Somers band as The Midnight Minstrels play "Sweet sixteen and never been kissed", with vocal by Dan Donovan. Somers' band was not noted for playing 'hot' dance numbers, but this performance gets hotter and hotter with 4 or 5 short solos in the second half. Maybe Debroy Somers felt he could alter his normal style slightly as this was to be released anonymously as 'The Midnight Minstrels'....
The Lad 1935 Gordon Harker, Betty Stockfield. Comedy drama.
Просмотров 5 тыс.Месяц назад
Another comedy of mistaken identity with Gordon Harker as a recently released ex-convict who goes on the trail of an emerald necklace, but is mistaken for a detective. This film (like The Private Secretary) was produced by Julius Hagen at Twickenham Studios in the UK in 1935 and has been unseen since this showing on BBC2 nearly 30 years ago. The film has never been released for purchase on any ...
Al Bowlly, Nat Gonella, and members of Lew Stone's band, "Bitter Sweet" 1933 film with Anna Neagle
Просмотров 372Месяц назад
Lew Stone's band made a very brief but welcome appearance in the 1933 film adaption of Noel Coward's "Bitter Sweet". In this short clip from near the end of the film Nat Gonella and Al Bowlly can be seen, although the pianist in view is actor Hugh Williams rather than a member of Lew Stone's band.
Teddy Joyce & his band play "I'm gonna wash my hands of you" a clip from "Hearts of humanity" (1935)
Просмотров 392Месяц назад
From producer John Baxter's 1935 film Hearts of humanity, here is Teddy Joyce & his band playing a hot version of "I'm gonna wash my hands of you", a number that they sadly did not record for HMV at the time.
The Private Secretary 1935 Alastair Sim, Edward Everett Horton
Просмотров 56 тыс.2 месяца назад
A comedy of mistaken identity, "The Private Secretary" was essentially a quota quickie from Twickenham Studios that starred Edward Everett Horton as a mild mannered clergyman who is impersonated by a young playboy (Barry MacKay), in a plot to deceive his rich uncle. Adapted from a famous stage farce the film allows a rare opportunity to see Edwardian actors Oscar Asche & Sydney Fairbrother, and...
Lou Abelardo "The good old sunny south" , "You're the cream in my coffee" + 1, recorded London 1929
Просмотров 1562 месяца назад
Lou Abelardo was another American singer visiting London in 1929, and whilst in the UK he sang with some dance bands as well as making some solo records for the Decca and Dominion companies. Here are three songs that he recorded for Dominion, "The good old sunny south", "You're the cream in my coffee" and "To know you is to love you". Dominion records were generally quite poor quality recording...
Billy Elliott - "Shout Hallelujah"/"Carolina Dinah Lee" recorded London, 1929
Просмотров 1472 месяца назад
American vaudeville comedian Billy Elliott was in London around 1928-29 and whilst in England he recorded a number of tracks for the Edison Bell Company, who issued the records on their "Winner" &"Radio" labels. All of these recordings benefited from the fine accompaniments provided by Winner's resident musical director Harry Hudson. Here from 1929 are "Shout Hallelujah" and "Carolina Dinah Lee".
"Red hot rhythm" by Nat Star & his band, from the film, recorded 1929 in UK on Sterno 378
Просмотров 1793 месяца назад
"Red Hot Rhythm" , now sadly lost, was a minor musical film produced in Hollywood by Pathe in 1929. The only version of the title song recorded in the UK was this one, by Nat Star & his band (vocal by Fred Douglas) released as "Vincent Howerd & his orchestra" on the cheap Sterno label. The recording quality of Sterno records at this period was somewhat inferior to the main labels, and the perfo...
Larry Brennan Winter Gardens Band w. Reginald Dixon, New Blackpool Song Mixture (No.1) rec.July 1934
Просмотров 1773 месяца назад
Larry Brennan was a resident dance band leader at the Winter Gardens Blackpool, and between July 1933 and May 1935 approx. 30 records were released on the Regal Zonophone label in the UK. All these were recorded at the Tower in Blackpool rather than the Winter Gardens, possibly due to better acoustics, and the band was supported by Reginald Dixon on the organ. The "New Blackpool song Mixture" (...
Chick Endor & Charlie Farrell, "I got the potatoes"with Carroll Gibbons, recorded London 1932
Просмотров 1803 месяца назад
American vaudevillians Chick Endor & Charlie Farrell proved a success when visiting London in 1932, and during their stay recorded a number of records for Columbia including a rarely seen 12" medley. As a contender for the longest title on a 78, "I got the potatoes, I got the tomatoes, but somebody else has got my girl" also benefits from a small orchestral accompaniment directed by Carroll Gib...

What a great movie to watch at night after a hard day. TY for the post!
It was lovely to see that film. Thank you 😊
A sweet, funny, dear movie . Thoroughly enjoyed it again❤😂🎉
A great upload. Say hi from me to Pete when you speak to him again. I must pay him another visit soon.
did not like this
I bought a wind up gramma phone ten years ago. I often listen to music on it.
Wonderful film, thank you!
Our home in Detroit had a system of bells to summon someone. My mother would throw a cowbell at my head😺
My Grandmother had a wind-up gramophone , wish I'd kept it !
P u, who cut the cheese 🙀
That guy in trunk makes me want to watch the music box…oye 😺
Fra gile e…must be Italian 😺
I have a nice little black cat. Louie 😺
@41:36- Someone yells "Hard a'port!" So the boat turns hard starboard! 😂
Amazing to see Geraldine Fitzgerald so young here. Doubly happy to find a Gordon Harker movie I hadn't seen!
Reminds me of how a dance-band sounded in our Town Hall, late 50s - early 60s. I would have been puzzled as to why a gramophone record has that `big room' sound but your explanation solves it.
Sulfa drugs, that is, sulfonamides, were first used in the 1930s. They were the first medications to treat successfully bacterial diseases. They were used in the United States and during WWII before penicillin was developed, first for use during the war, and later for civilian use. Imagine how many folks died before the use of these first antibiotics!!! The good old days were not all so great, in some significant ways. Learn from actual historical facts, not from glorified remembrances! 🤔
A great number. Thanks for posting it Mike.
So predictable, yet still so funny, and adorable. Love Edward Everett Horton.
100 yard backstroke. 😂
Never seen English Adds before!!! During a movie...its weird!!!
Have them on dvd.an irreplaceable lady.she was married to her co star mr stringer
Bravo Webster👏👏👏
Brilliant actor very funny wee legend he his xxx
It's a pity that Debroy Somers is always cast in a particular way - there's alot of hot stuff there too and his work with the Savoy Havana Band breaks any mould of timidity.
A good one. Thanks. Sadly, the sound quality isn't all that great. I've never understood why British films have such poor sound work : the level for background noises and music is usually set quite high, while the levels for the necessary dialogue levels in speech are low and sound muddy; and in this one, the mastermind's portions are even lower. Rough going, but worth the effort on this one.
A glimpse at the bygone age of Edwardian farce.I could watch Edward Everett Horton anytime. Thanks for posting.
So the robbery at the start was a flashback?
Thanks, another Alastair Sim film ticked off the list
Very enjoyable - wrong back in the 1930s for Phyllis to be denied a credit - that said - if you know anything about 1930s music - the voice is unmistakable
Harry Bentley was a talented singer - who died far to young
Not sure if I watched this properly when originally shown as have rather vague memories - will have to give it a whirl, thanks...
Ellison the famous air pilot ?...😮 What now ? Sabotage for an Atlantic Airodrome ? You would think they were going to the moon.
I have just discovered the German version is available on OK RU. With Subtitles. Great to watch both.
Wow, thanks for this rarity. Great to see your putting these up again.
Why are man so gullible and women so devious and evil.
"George" Harker?!! Lummy.
Great quality. Thanks for posting.
That’s an abrupt change. Not for the better.
Takes me back to my childhood. Yes, I’m that old! Days long gone when British people were British, and proud of it, and life was totally different to the mayhem we have now. Wish I could go back!!
If kosher…… ist gud ya
LOLLLL❣️🤣🤣🤣
